More about this vehicle
This example of the R107 500 SL has been enjoyed and loved. There is a large paperwork folder full of invoices and MOT certificates dating back to 2000. The car has been used as his regular ‘daily’ car for the past 10 years and has put around 6,000 miles on it in that time. Living in central London he doesn’t travel far but it has been in regular use in that time.
The car presents well with some wear and signs of age as to be expected of a car of this age without having undergone a full restoration. Included in the sale is the hardtop roof and stacks of paperwork, workshop manuals and a CD with workshop and servicing information. The soft-top roof works as intended for when you are caught out in the rain.
It appears that the car had its odometer replaced in around 2009 as the MOT history and mileage shows us its mileage in 2009 was 152,508 miles and it currently shows just over 96,000 miles. I would therefore expect the genuine mileage to be in the region of 158,500 miles given the 6,000 miles it has done in that time.
Mechanically the car runs and drives beautifully without fault, just as you would expect for a quality piece of German engineering from the 80’s.
We invite you to see the car for yourselves and we believe that if you are looking for a classic Mercedes R107 with the beautifully smooth V8 engine, and intend on using it as intended then this is the car for you.
You could spend more on a fully restored, concours example but then risk scratching it and feel horrible about it, or drive a car like this which presents really well and drives really well, but it isn’t free from impurities and signs of its age. Just a nice, genuine car.
